Photo of the Week: Annapurna Range at Sunrise

I visited Pokhara, Nepal at the end of the rainy season in September. From here it is possible to get nice views of the Himalaya; if the weather is right.

Before I left, the clouds has dissipated briefly in order to give me this splendid view of the Annapurna Range. But I had to wake at 5am and take a taxi to Sarankot, a village on a hillside ridge near Pokhara.

After the sun had risen, the clouds remained and disappointed tourists had left. I stuck around patiently and 45 minutes later the clouds started to burn off, revealing the majestic Annapurna range. In the other direction was the city of Pokahara and Phewa Lake.

Pokhara is major tourist destination in Nepal, located 7 hours west of Kathmandu. It is a hub or outdoor and adventure sports and serves as a base for those wishing to do trekking in the Annapurna Region.
